I am safe and sound in Ecuador! I arrived yesterday in Quito and spent today exploring the city. The city is 9,200 ft above sea level and is built on mountains. It is incredible! I have never seen anything quite like it. I will spend the rest of the week traveling around Ecuador and then will arrive in Guayaquil and meet my host family this weekend. It is definitely a culture shock, but I really enjoyed my first day. I think this is a good sign for a great rest of my stay here!
